UBA Foundation and Acha Eye Hospital Bring Free Eye Care Services to Residents of Yaoundé

Rédigé le 03 septembre 2026.

As part of its commitment to improving the well-being of communities across Cameroon, the UBA Foundation, in partnership with Acha Eye Hospital Yaoundé, organized a free eye care outreach on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the UBA Abbia Branch in Yaoundé.

The initiative provided members of the public with free eye consultations, eye health awareness sessions, glaucoma screening, and the donation of reading glasses to beneficiaries. Throughout the day, residents and passers-by along the busy Abbia commercial district were able to stop for a quick eye examination and receive professional guidance on their eye health.

Medical professionals from Acha Eye Hospital conducted vision assessments, sensitized participants on the importance of regular eye check-ups, and educated them on common eye conditions, particularly glaucoma, a leading cause of preventable blindness when not detected early. Individuals requiring further attention were referred for specialist treatment and follow-up care at affordable rates.

Participants also benefited from access to selected eye medications at subsidized prices, helping to reduce barriers to essential eye care.

Speaking on the initiative, UBA reiterated its commitment to supporting health-focused interventions that improve the quality of life of individuals and families across Cameroon.

Eye care remains inaccessible for many Cameroonians due to cost and limited awareness. Through this outreach, the UBA Foundation aims to help communities detect vision problems early, access professional advice, and adopt healthier eye care practices.

The initiative contributes to:

  • –   Early detection of eye diseases, particularly glaucoma;
  • –   Improved access to basic eye care services;
  • –   Increased awareness on the importance of routine eye examinations;
  • –   Referral of patients for affordable specialist treatment;
  • –   Distribution of free reading glasses to those in need.

Beyond the consultations conducted, the campaign seeks to raise awareness on a national scale, encourage regular eye checks, and dispel misconceptions that quality eye care is unaffordable or inaccessible.

The eye care campaign is being rolled out across Yaoundé, Douala, Limbe, Bafoussam, and Bamenda through a partnership between the UBA Foundation and Acha Eye Hospital, bringing essential vision care services closer to communities throughout Cameroon.
